Texas Department of Agriculture SPC Technician Licensing Requirements
This course fully complies with the TDA requirements for 20-hour SPC Apprentice Training in general standards as specified in RULE §7.132(i)(1) of the Texas Administrative Code. Click here to view the rule.. It is a portion of pest control training needed to prepare the apprentice for the Texas technician licensing exam and must be documented on the verifiable training record.
In addition to this training, apprentices must attend and participate in a SPCS approved technician training course (classroom) prior to taking the technician exam. The TPCA does not currently offer this classroom course. For more information about the apprentice training requirements for pest control technician licensing, see this link: SPCS Technician and Apprentice Licensing
Our course provides three important documents that should be included in the apprentice’s training file to serve as evidence of verifiable instruction: 1) a certificate of completion, 2) a study guide filled in by the apprentice, and 3) Exam test results.
NOTE: Do not send this 20-hour training certificate to the TDA when applying to take the licensing exam! This is NOT the certificate of completion for the SPCS-approved technician training course (classroom) that must accompany the SPT 420 form.
Pest control licensing - Inspection and/or control of pests in and around homes, businesses and industries. This includes insect pests or pest animals which may invade homes, restaurants, stores and other buildings, attacking their contents or furnishings or being a general nuisance, but do not normally attack the building itself, as for example, roaches, silverfish, ants, flies, mosquitoes, rats, mice, etc.
It is also necessary to have access to a SPCS General Study Guide. If you don't have access to one, you can purchase one from the Texas AgriLife Extension Service. Click here to download the SPAT web order form 7-19
Verifiable Evidence for Your Files
The TDA requires that the apprentice's personnel file contains verification of pest control training and are subject to review by SPCS personnel.
When completing this course, the apprentice will have three types of documents that provide verifiable evidence of apprentice pest control training training. Most importantly, the apprentice gets a downloadable certificate of completion for the apprentice 20-hour training in the general standards.
The student apprentice must download the certificate of completion and print it. Retain this certificate in their personnel file. The certificate provides verifiable evidence of training. Do not send this certificate to the TDA with the application for licensing exam! Send the certificate from the SPCS approved technician training course (classroom) provided by a third party.
In addition, each lesson contains downloadable study guides. The apprentice should also download these, print them and then fill in the blanks while watching the videos. These completed study guides also serve as verifiable evidence of pest control training.
The third piece of verifiable evidence of training are the Exam results. There are 11 exams - one for each of the 10 study areas and a Final Exam. Upon completion of each exam the student should download the exam results and forward them to their CA to be included in the verifiable evidence records.
